The Poisson Variation of Montmort's Matching Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
Known as le probleme des rencontres, Montmort's problem has become a classic. Treated in almost every modern text on combinatorics, it has been recast in a variety of amusing guises including the random switching of n hats by a possibly tipsy cloakroom attendant, the random placement of n letters in n envelopes by a secretary apparently having a bad day, and even in terms of a wager on the ordering in which the horses finish in a given race (for instance, see [3], [4], and [8]). As is well known (e.g., see [2, p. 107]), the principle of inclusion-exclusion may be used to show that the probability M, k of k matches occurring with an n-card deck is

Adomian Decomposition Method On Nonlinear Singular Cauchy Problem of Euler-Poisson- Darbuox equation
n this paper, we apply Picard’s Iteration Method followed by Adomian Decomposition Method to solve a nonlinear Singular Cauchy Problem of Euler- Poisson- Darboux Equation. The solution of the problem is much simplified and shorter to arriving at the solution as compared to the technique applied by Carroll and Showalter (1976)in the solution of Singular Cauchy Problem.
متن کاملModerate Deviations in Poisson Approximation: a First Attempt
Poisson approximation using Stein’s method has been extensively studied in the literature. The main focus has been on bounding the total variation distance. This paper is a first attempt on moderate deviations in Poisson approximation for right-tail probabilities of sums of dependent indicators. We obtain results under certain general conditions for local dependence as well as for size-bias cou...
متن کاملSequences , Patterns and Coincidences
This article provides a contemporary exposition at a moderately quantitative level of the distribution theory associated with sequences and patterns in iid multinomial trials, the birthday problem, and the matching problem. The section on patterns includes the classic distribution theory for waiting time for runs and more general patterns, and their means and moments. It also includes the centr...
متن کاملOn the inverse maximum perfect matching problem under the bottleneck-type Hamming distance
Given an undirected network G(V,A,c) and a perfect matching M of G, the inverse maximum perfect matching problem consists of modifying minimally the elements of c so that M becomes a maximum perfect matching with respect to the modified vector. In this article, we consider the inverse problem when the modifications are measured by the weighted bottleneck-type Hamming distance. We propose an alg...
متن کاملThe matching interdiction problem in dendrimers
The purpose of the matching interdiction problem in a weighted graph is to find two vertices such that the weight of the maximum matching in the graph without these vertices is minimized. An approximate solution for this problem has been presented. In this paper, we consider dendrimers as graphs such that the weights of edges are the bond lengths. We obtain the maximum matching in some types of...
